From Dublin to Skywalker Ranch – entertaining the children of the digital age
From the forests of Endor to the wastes of Tatooine, Dubliner Colum Slevin – listed this year among the ITLG Hollywood 50 – was as transfixed as any youngster by the Star Wars franchise that began with Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The Welsh Government is providing overseas trade support to help companies attend the Innovation in Entertainment event at Sony Studios, Los Angeles, on September 27th which is organised by the Irish Technology Leadership Group.

Move urged on securing executives’ free services
THE HEAD of the Irish Technology Leadership Group in California has urged the Government to move quickly to secure the services of top business executives who have offered to serve on state boards without payment. John Hartnett, founder of the ITLG, this week revealed the latest list of recruits who want to offer their services for the initiative, which was announced at last year’s Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin Castle. The list includes executives from some of the world’s leading companies.

Invest Drogheda Group make key connections on Trade Mission
The city was recently represented by an Invest Drogheda delegation led by the Mayor Kevin Callan and Chamber President Padraic Kierans, with Graham O’Rourke of the Drogheda Enterprise Centre and a number of locally based businesses. Return to the Valley
Last summer, the University of Wales Global Academy established an office in Silicon Valley, California, the global centre for innovative and entrepreneurial businesses. Based at the Irish Innovation Centre (IIC) in San Jose, the self-proclaimed capital of Silicon Valley, the aim of the office is to provide a presence for Welsh businesses that felt ready to present their innovation technology to potential investors, taking advantage of the soft-landing that the IIC provides to companies already based there.

ITLG – ‘Irish Times’ Innovation Awards Finalists for 2012
The fifth annual ITLG- Irish Times Innovation Awards have been expanded this year to cover five categories, with a shortlist of 20 companies traveling to the finals which will be held in Silicon Valley next month. The 20 companies were selected by the ITLG following an extensive review of approximately 100 companies at a series of pitch sessions at DCU and University of Ulster Belfast last October and November.

State Board Members invited to waive Fees
Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin has written to personnel officers in Government departments advising that any serving or future board members be “given the option to waive the related board fee on a discretionary basis”. The move is likely to have been influenced by the US-based Irish Technology Leadership Group which is creating a panel of 100 Irish executives based overseas who are willing to serve on State boards free of charge between now and 2016.
